Happy Children’s Day!

To all the inner child in ourselves,

HAPPY CHILDREN’S DAY!!!

Was surfing around, and read that Children’s Day is a public holiday in Japan?!?!?! Why isn’t it so in Singapore? We’re all children in our parents’ eyes, isn’t it?

I had a very nice Children’s Day gift, from nephew Caleb, after I saw what his mum posted on her facebook wall.

He said exactly the same thing over the phone (though I pretty much missed the first part)! Cute isn’t he? hahaha!

On a side note, I dreamt that I sang the children’s day song.

While listening to it, I realise that I can actually still remember the lyrics! It had been a long 22 years since I last memorised the song!

It being the official Children’s Day song in Singapore, the composer is the same person who composed the National Anthem πŸ™‚

Semoga Bahagia ( Children’s Day Song )

Sama-sama maju ke hadapan
Pandai cari pelajaran
Jaga diri dalam kesihatan
Serta sopan-santun dengan kawan-kawan
Dengan hati bersih serta suci
Sama-sama hormat dan berbudi
Jaga tingkah pemuda-pemudi
Adat dan budaya junjung tinggi
Capailah lekas cita-cita pemudi-pemuda
Supaya kita ada harga di mata dunia
Kalau kita lengah serta lupa
Hidup kita sia-sia
Jiwa besar sihat serta segar
Rajin dengan sabar tentu bahagia
Lemah lembut perangai pemudi
Cergas tangkas wataknya pemuda
Suka rela selalu berbakti
Sikap yang pembela dan berjasa
Capailah nama yang mulia pemudi-pemuda
Rajinlah supaya berjaya semoga bahagia

May You Achieve Happiness

Together we progress
Clever at seeking knowledge
Take care of your health
And be courteous to your friends
With a clean and pure heart
We respect and do good to each other
Watch your behaviour, oh youths
Respect and honour your customs and traditions
Quickly reach your goals/dreams, oh youths
So that we’ll have our worth, in this world
If we are lazy and forgetful
Our lives are worthless
A big heart and a fresh mind
Hardworking and patience definitely brings success/happiness
Soft-spoken is the lady
Energetic and tenacious is the man
Charitable, always contributing
Having a righteous spirit and doing good
Attain a respectable position, oh youths
Be hardworking so that you will succeed, may you achieve happiness

Meaningful lyrics, isn’t it? But how many people actually understand the lyrics?

Chapter 2.9

I set out to do many things today – dental visit, blog entries, clear room, change bedsheet.. the list goes on.

And only one was completed – dental visit. Simply because the appointment was made 3 months ago. LoLs!

Spent the morning at the dentist, then met up with mum at Lot1 for lunch + foot massage.

All spendings today are paid for. No the dental visit wasn’t free… but it’s claimable! The pants I bought from Converse was on discount, and paid using my new Standard Chartered credit card which had free $50 credit. Lunch & foot massage was complimentary from mum. :p

Had a family dinner at Dian Xiao Er @ Jurong Point on Sunday. Feels nice to be the princess once in a while :p

So what’s in the line for the start of chapter 2.9?

Made an appointment for blood donation. With 3 failed attempts over the past 2 yrs, I’m gonna make sure this will succeed! This will be a good start, I hope πŸ™‚

By the way..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COUSIN JOYJOY!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO WOLFY TOO!!

μ²«ν‚€μŠ€

If you didn’t understand the title, you might have guessed its meaning by putting your mouse cursor over the title. πŸ™‚

Nope this post isn’t anything about my first kiss or whatsoever :p but about this song that I came across few minutes ago, while doing housekeeping on my mp3s.

Sounds totally like an oldie, doesn’t it? But all I could get out of Uncle Google, is that this song is only 2yrs old!

So I went to dig the korean version of it (could easily guess there’s another version from the video title), and it sounds just as good!

Started liking this vocal (Lee Hongki from F.T. Island) when JLee intro-ed me to F.T. Island in Jan. Though I don’t understand the lyrics of the korean songs, I still find myself enjoying the music πŸ˜€

++++++++++++++++++++++

Post edit: Realise I should at least post the lyrics (of the English version) here, since not everyone can understand LHK’s accent πŸ˜€

Always Be Mine

I hear you breathe
You’re lying close to me
The shadows gone
I have found my peace

You make me calm
With you I’m safe from harm
And right by your side
I’ll stay through the night ’til eternity
That’s the way it will be

And I wonder what you’re dreaming of
You’re so peaceful when you sleep
Everything I want everything I need is lying here in front of me

And if I ever lose my power to fly
Then your love takes me high
I’ll always be true to you
Sometimes I think I might lose it all
Guess the chances are small
‘Cause you hold me close I feel you near
Don’t let go say you’ll always be here
So just hold me tight and I’ll be fine
Dreaming you will always be mine

Just like the sun
You make me warm inside
Like a soft summer breeze
A moment to seize
So true I won’t stop loving you

And I wonder what you’re dreaming of
You’re so peaceful when you sleep
Everything I want everything I need is lying here in front of me

And if I ever lose my power to fly
Then your love takes me high
I’ll always be true to you
Sometimes I think I might lose it all
Guess the chances are small
‘Cause you hold me close I feel you near
Don’t let go say you’ll always be here
So just hold me tight and I’ll be fine
Dreaming you will always be mine

And I wonder what you’re dreaming of
You’re so peaceful when you sleep
Everything I want everything I need is lying here in front of me

And if I ever lose my power to fly
Then your love takes me high
I’ll always be true to you
Sometimes I think I might lose it all
Guess the chances are small
‘Cause you hold me close I feel you near
Don’t let go say you’ll always be here
So just hold me tight and I’ll be fine
Dreaming you will always be mine

Just hold me tight and I’ll be fine
Dreaming you will always be mine

Love Cuts

Yes this is an overdue post.. Sorry HPB folks! But better late than never, when it comes to spreading messages, right? πŸ˜€

I’m sure you can find the synopsis online (or you can check out Chester’s entry here), but nothing beats watching it with your own eyes.

It’s an interesting touch to have HK actor Kenny Ho starring as the male lead, and Zoe Tay as the female lead. Something refreshing, as compared to other local movies. The movie’s in a mix of Chinese and Cantonese, but there’s English subtitles if you don’t understand Chinese / Cantonese.

Knowing how easily I cry when watching shows, you won’t be shocked at how much I cried while watching this movie at the charity premiere on 3rd Sep (there were actually tissue packets Β provided that day!). No special gimmicks in the show, all the attention is on the plot and the actors.

No doubt the plot is simple, but it brings across an important message – Early detection saves lives. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer among women in Singapore – but that doesn’t mean the guys don’t get it. When it is detected early, there is a good chance that it can be successfully treated. So if you have loved ones between the age of 40-49, they should go for mammogram screening annually, and once every two years if they are above the age of 50.

Having lost both of my grandpas to cancer years ago, I’ve grown to understand the fact that we should not take cancer lightly, especially when my paternal grandma was recently (2 months ago, in fact) diagnosed with cancer (which the doctor said it’s rare for it to be detected only at her age of 80). If regular checkups (mammogram screenings in the context of this blog post) had been done, things might have been different.

If you need more information on health screening, you can check out http://www.hpb.gov.sg/healthscreening/. If it doesn’t answer your queries, check with your GP.

Oh yes.. the movie is still screening in cinemas. Not sure when it will stop though. Don’t put too much high hopes on it, like I said, the plot is simple, no gimmicks. But do prepare a packet of tissue πŸ™‚

Trip to Malacca and back.

Took up Fen’s suggestion and joined them on a road trip to Malacca from 6-8 Aug. Glad I didn’t back out at the last minute hehe ;P

7 of us, 2 cars, 3 hrs ride. Totally enjoyed myself, despite having aches on the small thigh from too much of walking.

Reached Malacca at 7pm, checked in and off we went for dinner.

Makkota Hotel Meleka - where we stayed

Across the road from Mahkota Hotel (where we were staying) is Mahkota Parade.

Had Nandos for dinner, since most of us had never tried the Singapore version before. Food was pretty ok, but service was equally bad as Singapore’s (heard from those who tried the SG version). LoL.

Nandos Chicken - Dinner for Day 1

It was a pretty rushed dinner, we had less than 45mins before we had to get incepted. Inception was nice! Felt like we were all in the 2nd/3rd level of the dream. All for just RM8. That’s cheap compared to what we’re paying in Singapore!

Back at the hotel, by the time all of us showered (we had a 3-bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms), tired but not wanting to turn in. 4 of us ended up playing Big-2 & Saboteur (it’s a nice game!) till 4am.

Got woken up by their voices at 8. Was in a groggy state – how can they be so alert after only 4hrs of sleep?!?!?! I need 9!

:S

Headed over to Datarang Pahlawan (on the other side of Mahkota Parade) for Breakfast. Nasi Lemak was so-so, you can find better ones in Singapore.

Walked around the shopping mall and I emerged with cutesey stuff for the kids. LoLs.

Saw this fountain and I couldn’t stop snapping!

Went back to the hotel ‘coz we had to change to another apartment (due to the lack of 3-room ones for the 2nd night, we had to change to 2 of 2-room ones). And this was what we saw from one of the apartments.

After a short rest, we headed out. Again. This time to the other side of Dataran Pahlawan – the red church (Christ Church Melaka).

I do not know much about the history about this historical building, except that this is a must-see attraction in Malacca.

Jonker Street - Gai Cheong Gai

Jonker Street (right across the church) is where most of the activities are.

[I’m gonna exclude photos here, since we went to the same places :)]

Took a short break at 三叔公, where the guys had the Durian Chendol. Spent the entire afternoon at Jonker Street, walked over to the Baba Nyonya Museum to find it closed for the day.

Headed off for Peranakan dinner near the Museum, and more walking around Jonker Street. The night market was so bustled with stalls! Very different from day time!

Back to hotel at 11pm. Our feet were all too tired and were aching from all the walk since morning.

The 3rd and last day started only at late-morning, since we had to check out by 12noon.

Chicken Rice Ball! - Brunch for the day

Drove off and parked near the Baba Nyonya Museum, where we proceeded with more walks (again). The trip into the museum proved interesting to me, since I’m quite a fan of the Nyonya culture – no thanks to the Channel 8 drama Little Nyonya. No phototaking was allowed, but here’s our guide for the day. She’s a Nyonya!

By the time we left the museum, it was almost 5. Headed off for a quick dinner and off we go – heading home at last!

I had a good trip! When are we going to Penang, to continue our Peranakan trail?

How stupidity actually made my day

Of course it didn’t! Unless it’s some interesting stupidity πŸ˜€

Work is catching up on me. Just like how age catches up on everybody.

So on Tues, I decided to pay a visit to my hairdresser. Took a few minutes to decide on what to wear – I never wear skirts/dress when I visit the hairdresser so my bottoms selection was quite limited that day.

Called to make an appointment at 3.

Was real busy at work, but thought I needed a break since I OT-ed on Monday. Out of office I went, at 6.30pm.

Usual route – take bus to the next bus stop at Far East Shopping Centre, cross the road & take 502.

Waited almost 10minutes at the bus stop, no bus. Knowing that bus 502 stops at the bus stop behind Orchard MRT, I took train to Orchard instead.

The bus stop at the MRT exit doesn’t have bus 502 – no indication on the LED next-bus-arrival display, no 502 number on the sign board. Thinking it might be the other bus stop (there’s 2 bus stops at the MRT exit), I walked over.

Nope, bus 502 doesn’t stop there either. Time check: 6.50. My appointment was scheduled for 7.30pm.

Checked gothere.sg. It told me 502 stops at the bus stop nearest to the exit. Checked the iPhone app tranSGuide. It told me the same thing. Thinking maybe gothere isn’t updated, I took bus 190 to the one opposite Far East (where I usually take 502). LED display doesn’t indicate 502. Neither does the sign board. I must have been in a very confused mood. Told myself maybe because it’s express service, so the LED / sign board don’t indicate.

4 buses of 190 came and went. No sight of 502. Time check: 7.10

It finally came to me that, I should check SBS guide.

La la la.

SBS website says. 502 has changed its route!! Time check: 7.15

Would be real stupid to cab down. There’s peak hour surcharge.

So I decided to head home instead. -_-!

I feel so stupid. Should have checked out the route before leaving office, but I was too busy!

Lesson learnt. ALWAYS check bus routes. No site is 100% reliable.

Fragility of life

You know I’m a Super Junior fan when the iPhone is filled with their songs / videos. And the frequent entries on them. Sorry but I do not mean to flood your (RSS) timeline with their news πŸ˜€

Have heard about the freak accident 4 of the members (and 2 of their managers), and read about how Kyuhyun felt about it in a recent telecast. But had never went to find out what exactly happened, until I clicked on the last video in this blogpost. And then lots of thoughts came to my mind.

Possibly due to the recent craze over them, the daily dosage(s) of watching their weekly performances and the on-loop playlist of all their albums the entire day, that there’s a sense of δΊ²εˆ‡ζ„Ÿ (closeness) with them. Feels like they’re your brothers and it hurts when any of them gets injured. Any of you elfs has the same feeling too?

One reason why I love them, is their 执著-ness about life, and the close-knitted bond among them. How Kyuhyun fought hard to stay alive, how all of them continued to perform to the best of their ability. This group seems to be accident prone, somehow. I haven’t done any research, but I remembered my sis telling me other members got into (other) accidents too. Like Heechul, who got into an accident while on his way to visit another member (whom I can’t remember who now)’s dad who was in hospital. The accidents may have impacted some of them, but the close-knitted group continued to stay together and give their best performances.

Now that I think of it, life is really fragile isn’t it? You really can’t predict what will happen, you can’t prevent accidents from happening (you can control yourself but you can’t control others). But what’s more important is treasuring the present, and to embrace whatever things/events that might happen to you.

Knowing how to walk out from past (bad) experiences, is what makes one a stronger person.

And that is the reason why I love them. πŸ™‚
