With the launch of Samsung Galaxy Tab, which is currently exclusively available to Singtel, Samsung & Singtel came together and organise a Fashion Concert “Where Fashion Meets Music” & Special Performance by a Korean artiste Se7en.

If you find him familiar, he acted in the Korean drama Goong S as Lee Hoo.

I’ve got more photos on my facebook album, all taken with my D90 with a 18-200mm lens which I borrowed from Zifen 🙂 [ Buzz if you want the high res ones. I’ll gladly share – although they aren’t very professionally taken! 😉 ]

Love Cuts

Yes this is an overdue post.. Sorry HPB folks! But better late than never, when it comes to spreading messages, right? 😀

I’m sure you can find the synopsis online (or you can check out Chester’s entry here), but nothing beats watching it with your own eyes.

It’s an interesting touch to have HK actor Kenny Ho starring as the male lead, and Zoe Tay as the female lead. Something refreshing, as compared to other local movies. The movie’s in a mix of Chinese and Cantonese, but there’s English subtitles if you don’t understand Chinese / Cantonese.

Knowing how easily I cry when watching shows, you won’t be shocked at how much I cried while watching this movie at the charity premiere on 3rd Sep (there were actually tissue packets  provided that day!). No special gimmicks in the show, all the attention is on the plot and the actors.

No doubt the plot is simple, but it brings across an important message – Early detection saves lives. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer among women in Singapore – but that doesn’t mean the guys don’t get it. When it is detected early, there is a good chance that it can be successfully treated. So if you have loved ones between the age of 40-49, they should go for mammogram screening annually, and once every two years if they are above the age of 50.

Having lost both of my grandpas to cancer years ago, I’ve grown to understand the fact that we should not take cancer lightly, especially when my paternal grandma was recently (2 months ago, in fact) diagnosed with cancer (which the doctor said it’s rare for it to be detected only at her age of 80). If regular checkups (mammogram screenings in the context of this blog post) had been done, things might have been different.

If you need more information on health screening, you can check out http://www.hpb.gov.sg/healthscreening/. If it doesn’t answer your queries, check with your GP.

Oh yes.. the movie is still screening in cinemas. Not sure when it will stop though. Don’t put too much high hopes on it, like I said, the plot is simple, no gimmicks. But do prepare a packet of tissue 🙂

Cisco launches Flip Videoâ„¢

Cisco Systems [yesss I love this company, coz that’s where I had my first internship 10 years ago!] recently launched a new Camcorder in Singapore.

Was privileged to get invited to the launch event on Thurs 🙂

Camcorders might seem common these days, but a pocket camcorder? That was what attracted me! But I was pretty skeptical on the video output. Will the quality be comprised?

So we took the Flip Videoâ„¢(s) and went around doing some “testing”.

Did this indoor, at the dining venue.

And this was taken outdoor, at the open area of VivoCity at 3rd floor.

Doesn’t seem to impress me much actually. But I’m pretty cool with it, seeing that it’s a compact camcorder. It’s good for play use!

Not until.. I saw the “Watch in HD” mode on youtube! haha oops!

It’s nice of the organisers to have a “choose the correct flip and u get to own it” game. Yes I won it ahhaha!

So I took it with me to a colleague’s housewarming on Sat. Here’s the video I took, in bright daylight, indoor. 🙂

Take a closer look at 0:52. I’m impressed by how the video auto adjusts the brightness as it moves.

Oh! I haven’t show you the size of the camcorder right? Here you go!

The name tag is the normal credit card size. That’s how small the Flip Videoâ„¢ is (the one in the backdrop is MinoHDâ„¢)!

More info on Flip Videoâ„¢ on the official site.

Cisco Flip MinoHDâ„¢ is currently retailing at SGD 349, if you’re keen to get one 🙂

Finally, thank you Julian from Text100 for the invite!

Super Junior (was) in town!

When Huishan asked me if I’m interested in the Super Junior showcase, I went (to myself).. “who’s Super Junior?” (Despite having their poster in my room’s wall for the past years). Nevertheless, I said Yes!, seeing that I seldom reject invitations to concerts. So I went!

Before leaving house, I read DK’s entry on Super Junior. That was the FIRST time I watched their video. First time hearing the song “Sorry Sorry”. And I was impressed by their performance. A group of (currently active) 10 members, the dance was perfect! Very neat performance they had!

It was at the venue (Marina Bay Sands) that I realised, it was actually the Singtel-Samsung Galaxy S showcase (coz I only had ticket to the showcase and not the media release)!

While waiting for them to appear, I was playing around with my D90. Haven played much with it, need to find out what/where are the buttons/features. LOL. Turned out that the lens that I brought along didn’t perform as good as expected, my Canon Powershot SX120IS was so much better!

Enough said, here are some of the (better ones) photos!

I think I have their names correct. 9 of the 10 members were in town, Shindong isn’t in the above photos (couldn’t find a nice one of his in my cameras!). KyuHyun wasn’t in town.

Oh! Today’s (21 June) is Ryeowook’s birthday! They had a mini celebration for him during the showcase.

Did I mention.. I’m now a fan? I’ve got their albums & posters. Songs on the loop in my playlist. Videos played repeatedly. Geesh!

Thanks DK, Singtel & Samsung for the invite! I had fun!

More photos in my flickr & facebook.

Samsung GALAXY S

SuperJunior was recently here for the launch of Samsung’s new phone – Galaxy S. Had a chance to play with the phone, though it was only a short 5-10 minutes. And I’m totally sold.

What attracted me to the phone?

  • I thought it look like an iphone – iPhone lookalike
  • Sharp colours on screen – better & nicer looking photos, comparing with Huishan’s Omnia
  • Camera has the beauty-shot mode – a mode that Victor kept telling us about, when he was holding on to the review unit of Samsung NX10
  • Record HD videos! – very awed with this! HD leh!

Because it is an Android phone, I thought it might be a good idea to try it out. Having been (stuck) with my iPhone 3G (which I admit I had very wonderful memories with) for a year & a half, I think I need a change. :p

Samsung Galaxy S is currently solely available with Singtel. Ranging from $0 to $768 with contract. I can’t wait!

Oh! Here’s a photo of the 9/10 members of SuperJunior who came!
