H1N1 Patient Zero’s name published on TNP

With the first case of H1N1 in Singapore on Wed, many are curious on who brought it here.

I’m not curious about who it is, have not been searching online for any traces of the name. All I heard over the Chn8 News (plus a little bit of information on Plurk) was, the girl’s a SMU student who went New York for a study trip.

Until I saw DK’s entry. Here’s the link to the online TNP article if you’re curious enough.

I have no qualms about publishing the name of the girl, but I do not understand why TNP chose to publish it when the official press releases from MOH & SMU (as well as other media) do not have it? What’s the purpose in publishing her name? To put shame on her? But when she has requested for her identity kept secret?

Why can’t TNP respect people’s privacy?

And Sars happened so long ago, why bring it up 6 years down the road now? Sars Patient Zero is the main victim, do you think she felt good about bringing the virus (when it was still unknown) back and cost the lives of her close ones?

Stop being so childish, TNP! If you think you can gain (more) fame by being the FIRST to publish the name of H1N1 Patient Zero, bringing back memories of SARS, think again.

It’s time to be more matured in handling such news.

the morning when everything went wrong

*cough* Yes I reached office ONLY at 11am! woohoo~ (?) haha

Out of house at 9am (which was already later than my usual timing). Saw a jammed BKE from the doorstep (Yes I stay just at the BKE exit). Learning from my previous lesson (the one which I left house at 8am for a 9.30am staff meeting, saw traffic jam and took train but ended up reaching office only at 9.30am), I decided to stay with my normal routine and take bus (which usually takes 45mins, 1hr 15mins for such traffic jams). I was prepared to reach office probably by 10.30am.

*cough*

Wrong choice.

Bus frequency was low. All were packed. And I had 2 bus services that can bring me to town. Service 960 came ONCE and was packed. Service 190 came several times but ALL were packed – blame the inconsiderate passengers who didn’t want to move in. ANGRY!

After waiting for 30mins, I was tempted to just take urgent AM leave. But colleague said, since already wake up already.. no point wasting the leave. Which was logical anyway..

Finally managed to squeeze on service 190 at 9.47am. *phew*

The jam was pretty much the normal traffic jam. Was out of BKE by 10.05am? A distance that normally takes 5mins.

But then.. there was still a jam! ALAMAK! I didn’t catch this news on the radio! Another accident on PIE before Eng Neo exit!

And so.. I reached the Concorde Hotel bus stop (the one before Plaza Singapura) only at 10.27am, need to change bus to reach office.

LED display says services 16 comes in 12min, service 14 13min. So I hopped over to the foodcourt beside the hotel to get coffee, and see whatever I can get (preparing to skip lunch hour). Not many stalls were opened yet, so I got coffee and a chicken pau. One uncle was busy preparing my coffee, so I self-serviced to the chicken pau from the steamer next to me. I told the uncle I took chicken pau. But hor.. another uncle walked over, used his HAND to take the pau OUT of the paperbag to check what pau I took. WTF!!!!!! HELLO UNCLE! BE MORE HYGENIC CAN?!?!?!??! THE TONG IS JUST BESIDE YOU!! WAH LAO!!

Already not in a good mood from the 2 traffic jams, this uncle just had to spoil my day.

Almost time for bus 16 to arrive.

SBS 836 G. You’re making it to the news SOON. I flagged the bus. (And I wasn’t the only one who wanted to take that service). Bus slowed down but DIDN’T STOP! WTF AGAIN?!?!?!
THERE WERE ONLY A FEW CATS ON THE BUS!!! (Literally translated from 小猫几只 which means there were only a few people on board, less than 10!)

ARGHHHHHHH!!!

Chill chill.. bus 14 is just behind..

Alighted at the suntec bus stop. While I was walking to Shaw Tower, felt something cool on my toe (something dropped on it). Looked down and saw.. a jelly-like squishy thingy! WTF for the THIRD time! EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Didn’t know what it is, used tissue and wiped it off.

And so.. I reached office only at 11am.

WAH LAO!!! CAN MY MORNING BE ANY BETTER?!?!?

Post edit: And oh.. the coffee SUCKS too! *sick*

Eiji & Eileen’s wedding

June – Nov 2000 : (Poly year 3 sem 1) Student Internship Programme
Was attached to this company together with Eiji. Classmates for a year at that point of time, but I’d long heard of his intelligence during year 1. And he really was (and still is I believe :p).

Somewhere during those months, being quite “arh” with him, I had updated news. That was when I knew he got attached to Eileen. All I was told, he got to know her online (through a mutual friend, which I later on realised that Eileen’s Drac’s poly-mate). Daily emailS were exchanged between the two of them then, during working hours (LOL).

1 year later, we graduated. Being the usual kay-poh that I’d always been, I started organising (a few) class gatherings. Eileen joined us on a few occassions? (I seriously can’t remember, coz the last gathering I organised was at least 6 years ago).

And we kind-of lost touch after that – I got busy with school and had no time to organise gatherings. But I was updated on Eiji from JK sometimes.

Fast forward to 6 Feb 2009

Received an email from Eiji, titled “My Wedding: Save This Date”. A few of us got together and asked “eh is it still the same girl?”. Sorry dude! That’s the problem when we’re not often in contact with one another! But the bride’s name sounded familiar.

10 May 2009 : The Wedding Day @ Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel

It felt more like a course-gathering, seeing 2 tables of familiar faces (and another familiar face wearing the Navy uniform! “Hi Royston!” – a uni fren) :D. I was congratulating the couple during reception when the bride called out my name (that was when I realised “hey it’s the same girl!”), saying that she remembers me from the gatherings I organised. Wow.. Thanks gal! I am honoured!

Congratulations Eiji & Eileen! I hope the next time we meet, there’s good news from both of you!

And here’s the photo that we waited for quite a while after the dinner ended..

Congratulations once again!

PS: I couldn’t find my name on the guest list. Yes, I definitely WAS INVITED. I have the invitation card! *facepalm*

私奔到月球

Thanks to JK, I’m hooked to the song AGAIN! Can’t wait for Aug 29! Mayday concert! woohoo~

And will Cheer be coming to sing this song? I love her singing!!

SingTel F1 Exclusive Blogger Race

I’m honoured to be one of the few who were invited to this closed door event! =D Thanks to Nanyate for the invitation!

Was supposed to meet Qiquan, Victor, Huishan & Vincent @ Raffles Place MRT at 6.45pm (at which I knew only at 6.25pm, thanks to QQ LOL). Sped to Cityhall MRT within 15mins, caught the incoming train (that says 1min arrival time when I reached the station). 5mins later I’m at RP MRT. Not knowing which direction the exit-escalator is, I clumsily walked onto a sitting bench – and my knees pained like hell for that few minutes. (must have hanged out with HS too often and I got claudsified -_-)

A long walk to the Singtel Training Centre @ Pickering Operations Complex. Sweating profusely by the time we reached. LOL

And saw a few familiar faces – DK, Nadia, Mus, Yin, Claudia, Daniel.

Taking our time to cool down, we had a quick (provided) dinner.

And it’s time to race on the F1 simulators! woohoo~ (I didn’t take much photos though)

Vincent started first!

But the moment he started racing… see the look on his face LOL

Lap time: 5:25

Next is QQ after a little bit of persuasion!

Lap time: 5.3x ?

And it’s MY TURN!! Felt so excited sitting in the simulator! And it’s FREAKING UNCOMFORTABLE!! How on earth can the racers tahan such sitting position?!?!??! No photo on my camera, but here’s a failed attempt by HS (using my camera)

Lap time: 4:06! I’m proud of myself! I do not possess a driving license FYI. 😀

(While I was racing, Victor was at the other simulator. HS was in possession of my camera, thus no video)

Why do everyone look so stress?! hahaha

HS’s up next!

EHHHH SHE BROKE MY RECORD BY 2SECS! #^$)@*#)*$%)W%*$)&%^#

Lap time: 4:04

HS you are PLAIN LUCKY! hahahaha!

More photos / videos will be up when I get hold of them!

Seriously, I’m amazed with the simulator! To think that I once aspired to be a game developer hahaahahha! I want to race again!! Can the simulator be publicly available PLEASE?

4 Apr – Cheer Chen’s The Sun concert

Earlier this month, I was at Cheer Chen’s concert. By a series of events, I ended up going with JK instead of colleague. LOL.

Weeks prior to that, JK missioned me to learn ALL her songs coz I wasn’t that familiar with them. I was too busy (with work if you’d kept up with my plurks) to learn.. yes I could have listened while working but it’s hard to concentrate. 🙁

A search on google for the concert poster brought me to this site. It’s interesting to know that STB actually posts such concerts into the events calendar. Amazed that the site is pretty updated.

Was supposed to meet JK at 5.30pm, but I was dilly-dallying (I think) that I was late, and took cab down, only to realise that.. he woke up only at 5.30pm.. -_-! Since it was still early, I went into Coffeebean and enjoyed myself with a cuppa Ice Blended Mocha and iPhone in hand. Feels good to do that, probably I should try it again 🙂

Dinner was good. Simple food fare @ Pastamania. Couldn’t finish my food though, the serving was huge. Nevertheless, it was time well spent. =)

Decided to walk over to Indoor Stadium at 7. Didn’t realise that Star Pass holders can enter the venue early! Good thing I brought my card! Was planning to get some momentos, but nothing interest me. LoL.

I tried to do a live update when the concert started, but found it hard ‘coz I didn’t know the titles of the songs. Mission FAIL. haha!

First time hearing her live. Have heard that her unplug is nice, courtesy of JK, years back. But wasn’t really a fan of hers. No regrets going for her concert this year though! She’s good (and I think that’s what I always say, regardless which concert I go to). I like hearing her sing live. unplugged. And now I have another added to the “must go” list – Mayday, David Tao, Cheer Chen.

A random search on youtube

3 years ago her voice was already that good =)

Plantar fasciitis

My last entry on Plantar fasciitis was 5 months ago. It didn’t go off, but came back as and when it liked. The short research I did merely helped me understand more about it, until I was telling NLS about it yesterday. He sent me this link, which took me quite sometime to digest the information.

Quite an informative site I’d say. I’m now more determined to keep to the schedule of stretching the legs. Yes.. the pain became more obvious recently, until I had to stop wearing my Neckerman sandals (which I usually wear to work) and wore the crocs instead. Heck the weird colour combination, I needed my foot to be cushioned to feel comfortable.

The doc visit back then helped only informatively. I didn’t take the prescribed painkiller. Didn’t keep to the schedule of stretching the legs 3 times a day. Regretted. I can’t go for foot reflexology now, coz it really pained when the heel is pressed 🙁 And I still have 6 more sessions to go (I signed a package)!

7 Mar – Ah Ma’s Bday Celebration

I kept thinking to myself why I wasn’t early for the celebration, then I suddenly remembered I was involved with SDSC’s Flag Day *facepalm*

And so the story goes..

I wasn’t at Uncle KS’s place in the morning, but Auntie Siew Siew passed me the photos she took.

Ah Ma with Lele
Ah Ma enjoying her longevity noodles

The celebration began with Lele presented Ah Ma with the bouquet of roses on behalf of all the uncles & aunts.

There were many other family shots taken, but I think I’ll bore you with them, so I’m keeping the story short. I thought the following collage was nice. Random shots I took of Jiawen (girl in white) & Wanxin (girl in green). Do the photos tell you a story? 😀

Repeated many times, I still love such family gatherings! Can’t wait for the next one to come. Mothers’ Day celebration!
