Learning Korean #1

Yours truly decided to start a new series here, while I’m still having the korean fever πŸ™‚

So! I’ve only attended the Korean Basic class organised by the CC near my place, all I can remember from the class, was how to read the Korean words. What I’m going to include in this series, are what I’d learnt from watching the various dramas & variety shows. πŸ™‚

First up, how do you say brothers / sisters? Now you have to understand, in the Korean language, there’s a difference between how the boys and the girls say certain things.

Elder Sister / 姐姐
[the sister may not necessary be of blood-related, but someone you are close to and have a sister-ship relationship]
λˆ„λ‚˜ (nuna or noona) – called by a boy
μ–Έλ‹ˆ (eonnie or unnie) – called by a girl

Elder Brother / ε“₯ε“₯
[the brother may not necessary be of blood-related, but someone you are close to and have a brother-ship relationship]
였빠 (oppa) – called by a girl [sometimes you can hear (in korean shows) girls calling their partners oppa]
ν˜• (hyung) – called by a boy

Younger Brother & Sister / 弟弟 妹妹
[the brother / sister may not necessary be of blood-related, but someone you are close to and have a sister-ship relationship]
λ”μƒ˜ (dongsaeng) – called by both the boys and girls, referring to someone who is younger (regardless of gender)

That’s it for now! Drop me a comment if you find this useful! πŸ˜€
