Fragility of life

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

You know I’m a Super Junior fan when the iPhone is filled with their songs / videos. And the frequent entries on them. Sorry but I do not mean to flood your (RSS) timeline with their news :D

Have heard about the freak accident 4 of the members (and 2 of their managers), and read about how Kyuhyun felt about it in a recent telecast. But had never went to find out what exactly happened, until I clicked on the last video in this blogpost. And then lots of thoughts came to my mind.

Possibly due to the recent craze over them, the daily dosage(s) of watching their weekly performances and the on-loop playlist of all their albums the entire day, that there’s a sense of 亲切感 (closeness) with them. Feels like they’re your brothers and it hurts when any of them gets injured. Any of you elfs has the same feeling too?

One reason why I love them, is their 执著-ness about life, and the close-knitted bond among them. How Kyuhyun fought hard to stay alive, how all of them continued to perform to the best of their ability. This group seems to be accident prone, somehow. I haven’t done any research, but I remembered my sis telling me other members got into (other) accidents too. Like Heechul, who got into an accident while on his way to visit another member (whom I can’t remember who now)’s dad who was in hospital. The accidents may have impacted some of them, but the close-knitted group continued to stay together and give their best performances.

Now that I think of it, life is really fragile isn’t it? You really can’t predict what will happen, you can’t prevent accidents from happening (you can control yourself but you can’t control others). But what’s more important is treasuring the present, and to embrace whatever things/events that might happen to you.

Knowing how to walk out from past (bad) experiences, is what makes one a stronger person.

And that is the reason why I love them. :)

Maybe.. I should do an arrangement of the members based on their birthdate. Always at a lost who’s older / younger. Only knew (at any instant) that the oldest is Teukie and the youngest is Kyuhyun.

Leetuk – 1 July 1983
Heechul – 10 July 1983
Yesung – 24 Aug 1984
Shindong – 28 Sep 1985 (easily remembered!)
Sungmin – 1 Jan 1986
Eunhyuk – 4 Apr 1986
Donghae – 15 Oct 1986
Siwon – 10 Feb 1987
Ryeowook – 21 Jun 1987
Kyuhyun – 3 Feb 1988

Alright, now I won’t get the (age) sequence wrong! :)

Food Trail

Random snapshots from the food trail that Victor organised last week :)

Obviously I don’t have enough confidence to post other photos, so hop on to my flickr if you’re keen. :P

I realise..

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I realise..

that I get emo quite easily these days

that I’m not as patient as I used to be

that I’ve lost the capability of good finance management

that I’ve also lost the capability of good time management

that I’ve started to look forward to weekends on Mondays

that I’ve been having Monday blues very frequently these days

that I’m no longer looking forward to work (gonna get killed for posting this)

that this peak period is way beyond my capability

I think I need a break. From everything.

Recognising the members of Super Junior

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

I didn’t mean to flood with Super Junior posts, but I didn’t want to flood my browser with the Youtube tab everytime I open it. :p

Yes someone sent me (I think it’s Jiayun! Cannot remember already.. she sent me so long ago!) the link to youtube, on the “biography” of the different members. Do NOT play the videos embedded below if you don’t want to see their un-artistey look. :D

Super Junior (was) in town!

Monday, June 21st, 2010

When Huishan asked me if I’m interested in the Super Junior showcase, I went (to myself).. “who’s Super Junior?” (Despite having their poster in my room’s wall for the past years). Nevertheless, I said Yes!, seeing that I seldom reject invitations to concerts. So I went!

Before leaving house, I read DK’s entry on Super Junior. That was the FIRST time I watched their video. First time hearing the song “Sorry Sorry”. And I was impressed by their performance. A group of (currently active) 10 members, the dance was perfect! Very neat performance they had!

It was at the venue (Marina Bay Sands) that I realised, it was actually the Singtel-Samsung Galaxy S showcase (coz I only had ticket to the showcase and not the media release)!

While waiting for them to appear, I was playing around with my D90. Haven played much with it, need to find out what/where are the buttons/features. LOL. Turned out that the lens that I brought along didn’t perform as good as expected, my Canon Powershot SX120IS was so much better!

Enough said, here are some of the (better ones) photos!

I think I have their names correct. 9 of the 10 members were in town, Shindong isn’t in the above photos (couldn’t find a nice one of his in my cameras!). KyuHyun wasn’t in town.

Oh! Today’s (21 June) is Ryeowook’s birthday! They had a mini celebration for him during the showcase.

Did I mention.. I’m now a fan? I’ve got their albums & posters. Songs on the loop in my playlist. Videos played repeatedly. Geesh!

Thanks DK, Singtel & Samsung for the invite! I had fun!

Samsung GALAXY S

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

SuperJunior was recently here for the launch of Samsung’s new phone – Galaxy S. Had a chance to play with the phone, though it was only a short 5-10 minutes. And I’m totally sold.

What attracted me to the phone?

  • I thought it look like an iphone – iPhone lookalike
  • Sharp colours on screen – better & nicer looking photos, comparing with Huishan’s Omnia
  • Camera has the beauty-shot mode – a mode that Victor kept telling us about, when he was holding on to the review unit of Samsung NX10
  • Record HD videos! – very awed with this! HD leh!

Because it is an Android phone, I thought it might be a good idea to try it out. Having been (stuck) with my iPhone 3G (which I admit I had very wonderful memories with) for a year & a half, I think I need a change. :p

Samsung Galaxy S is currently solely available with Singtel. Ranging from $0 to $768 with contract. I can’t wait!

Oh! Here’s a photo of the 9/10 members of SuperJunior who came!

A month hiatus

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

You might have known, that I have recently bought a D90. :D

Yes I’ve been going around taking photos, on top of my many OT days at work, and my laziness (more of being tired) on weekday nights. Thus the lack of updates.

No I’ve not disappeared. I’m still pretty active on Twitter & Facebook, you’ll probably be more updated on my whereabouts there :)

I’ll be slowly updating on my visits to the many places. I hope.

Stay tuned!

Marina Bay Sands

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Just like many curious Singaporeans, I paid a visit to the Marina Bay Sands on the first weekend of its opening.

That’s how the building looks like – the 3 pillars with the spaceship on top :D And the long metallic creature, is what people are curious about too – the Helix bridge. The entire bridge is built on water.

Started off with the hotel section. I particularly liked this lobby – the Japanese look of it.

Got this inspiration from JK, who was my tour guide for the day.

Looking up? or down?

I think this photo can be a good Math question. How many symmetry lines are there? LOLs. That’s actually what you see, when you stand in the middle of one of the 3 towers (or pillars, when you see the first photo) and look up.

If you have a chance to look at this pillar, those “lines” are actually holes, that are aircon vents! Interesting concept!

Over at the shopping section, there’s nothing special.. except..

Does this scene look familiar? Except that there’s no water running now. Remember the scene from 宫? Where Caijing went to Macau to look for Shin, the place they met to “officially” breakup? Different structure, but the idea is there, no? :D Now I don’t need to travel to Macau to experience it.. hahaha

As with the normal rules, photos are prohibited at the Casino area.

A random view from outside the shopping area..

Pretty amazed at how my camera can perform. The above photo was taken with the 10x optical zoom :)

Can you tell what’s wrong with the above photo?

Answer’s in my facebook album :P

Oh yes.. thank  you JK for being the tour guide! Pretty informative! :)

可为盈盈 KEEP! 音乐会

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Received an invitation on Facebook, from Kewei herself, to the e樂大牌檔﹕可為盈盈 KEEP!音樂會 Singapore Launch event.

Venue: K-Box, K-Union at Cathay Cineleisure ( Level 8 )

Date/Time: 2nd May, 3pm

Accepted the invitation, as “Maybe Attending”. Wasn’t sure if I had the time, or if I can find someone to go with.

Until JK asked. So off we went! :D

The queue was pretty long when we reached. The 音乐会 started after a 15min delay.

Have heard Kewei sang live before, from her stints at David Tao’s concert, A-Mei’s concert, her mini “concert” at one of the Esplanade’s Lunch Concerts.

But it was the first hearing the duo sing. Refreshing I’d say.

They sang their songs. Oh, they got popular on youtube by singing Khalil Fong’s (方大同) songs.

Of course, they sang a medley of Khalil’s songs too! How can they miss out on that! :)

Short 1 hour session, but it was fun! Hearing them sing live was interesting!

You can check out more of Kewei on her blog or facebook or youtube.

Or

Check out Kewei & Einein’s site.
